:o I tracked down that anime Ray brought in July, that we showed at midnight while waiting for Greg-chan. I MUST get a copy of this burned on DVD-R!!

 It dates from 1985-1986, as a series of single episodes on VHS OAVs. It's also known as Yumi (or Yume) Jigen Hunter Fandora. It was NOT in Kim's 2nd (and last) edition of the Complete Anime Guide, co-written by former Animerica editor Trish Ledoux - too fan-service for release back then (see below).

 There was a DVD re-release in Japan in 2001 with all 3 episodes - however, these OAVs are typically limited release, so it might be hard to find :( (would YOU want to let go of this?! Although maybe it COULD be burned ;-)...). Here is some more info, from Anime News Network:

 "Fandora was also released by Hiromasa Shibazaki in an English dubbed version in hopes of starting a commercial anime video market in the United States. It could be bought by mail order direct from Japan but his attempt failed due to the high price, a lack of advertising and the small number of American fans established at the time." (LOL finding THIS...)

:) Supposedly, according to one source, "Anime Classic Reviews" - as a fansubber - is supposed to be working on the other 2 episodes. So far only episode 1 is available on the internet. It was also available in Italian :!: :?:

 A grainy whole episode 1 clip can be viewed at:

:P Some good anime forum chat, about 80's anime vs today's CG-assisted stuff, beginning in early July 2008, can be found at:

 Did this Influence Sailor Moon? Well, it was conceived by Go Nagai, of Cutey Honey fame. He is credited (at least on Wikipedia) with inventing magical girls for anime with the same... although that is debatable, as the true honour belongs to Ozamu Tezuka with Princess Knight, even after his manga... but Wikipedia mentions the seminal "changing" aspect as well. Anyhow, it all depends on whether Toei watched Nagai's stuff... I would say probably. Rather than Sailor Moon female creator Naoko Takeuchi. Most anime is made by males, hence the frequent fan-service aspect.

8) I remember watching Astro Boy in first syndication in the 1960's (I was about 5 or 6 years old) as well as Kimba The White Lion. BTW: These are available in DVDs, but Astro Boy is dubbed only, except for the first episode. I am not sure about Kimba the White Lion (I am double-checking sometime soon). I am also looking for fan-subs of these shows. The one thing that I do remember is watching the show, but I can't remember much about what was on. I do remember Kimba The White Lion, as it was re-shown in the 1980's. The one thing that I remember is that those shows were very different then the North America animated shows.

The other show that I saw in the 1960's was Marine Boy. So I have been an anime fan for some time :P although officially I truly became a fan after I saw Akira at the Plaza Theatre, a decade or so ago.

Aw yes I remember Kimba I enjoyed that movie very much when I was a child I also loved The Last Unicorn! that was a very good one ^.^

I am very sad though, hey are re-making Astro Boy as a Holly wood Live action movie... As soon as some one says HollyWood and anime in the same sentance a part of me dies on the inside because you then know your going to have a whole need bread of Astro 'Fan girls/boys' who don't actualy know anyhing about Astro boy or the origonal. its like having a Fleet of Narutards! (No offence to Naruto Fans ((I like the manga better then the anime)) because I do enjoy reading a chapter every now and again) But I think every knows what I mean...

Oh don't remind me DX and they getting Justin Chatwin to play Goku! And James Marsters to play Lord Piccolo! This isn't going to be good >_> My gut feeling is screaming "NO NO NO! go to the studio where they are filming and Brake their legs!"... Oh, that is only my opinion though... I don't tend to like many Live action movies. I like the origonal, and if that isn't good enough for the main stree society, then thats just too bloodie bad!

Well any how that is my rant... I think I will stop there and talk about something Good to make me happy!

I hear 'The Last Unicorn' is supose to be released on Blue-Ray ^.^

Astroboy Film

Yes J_walker_anonymous, there is a Astroboy Movie, but it is not a live-action movie, it is going to be a CGI movie. It is being done by Imagi Animation Studios, (Yes, the same makers of the last TMNT movie). I think from what I can get from the internet that it is going to be faithful to the original series, but I am not sure about that. Another thing that it is being released in theaters on October 23, 2009.

This is from a Movie website called Coming Soon and this is what they are saying:

Plot Summary: A thrilling tale of a true hero, "Astro Boy" is an all-new, feature film full of action, adventure, humor and heart. It will be brought to life on the big screen in breathtaking CGI animation on October 23rd, 2009.

Set in futuristic Metro City, "Astro Boy" is about a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist named Tenma (Nicolas Cage). Powered by positive "blue" energy, Astro Boy (Freddie Highmore) is endowed with super strength, x-ray vision, unbelievable speed and the ability to fly.

Embarking on a journey in search of acceptance, Astro Boy encounters many other colorful characters along the way. Through his adventures, he learns the joys and emotions of being human, and gains the strength to embrace his destiny. Ultimately learning his friends and family are in danger, Astro Boy marshals his awesome super powers and returns to Metro City in a valiant effort to save everything he cares about and to understand what it takes to be a hero.

I hope that I see you tomorrow night and we can discuss it further.
